Ducks get first 2014 commitment, Chung signs with Chip, plus Pac-12 spring links
The first member of Oregon's 2014 recruiting class is ... (drumroll) ... linebacker Jordan Hoiem of Wailuku, Hawaii. Hoiem, who goes about 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, is a four-star player per247sports, gets three stars from Scout.com and as of yet is unranked by ESPN and Rivals.
The Ducks signed a couple of outside linebackers in the 2013 class, Torrodney Prevot and Tyrell Robinson, and have some other young guys there in Christian French, Tyson Coleman and Cody Carriger, and now Hoiem will enter the pipeline. It's noteworthy, too, that the Ducks have an early commitment after extending many more early scholarship offers than they did under Chip Kelly.
Moving from future Ducks to alums, safety Patrick Chung today signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. New Eagles coach Kelly was Oregon's offensive coordinator for Chung's final two years here.
Looking around the Pac-12: Washington has suspended tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins after his DUI arrest. ... USC's Max Wittek is injured, throwing the QB race into flux. ... Quarterback Allan Bridgford, who started against Oregon last fall, is transferring from Cal. ... Utah's offensive line looks stacked.
